FIVE SWIM SKILLS THAT TRANSFORM STRUGGLE INTO SUCCESS; Terry Laughlin, founder of Total Immersion
Efficient swimming doesn’t come naturally. Man may have been ‘born to run’ but as swimmers we were ‘born to struggle.’ In fact, DARPA (the research arm of the Defense Department) engineers estimate that the average human swimmer is only 3 percent energy efficient—dolphins are 80 percent efficient.
What happens to the other 97 percent of our energy and horsepower? Where dolphins and other aquatic mammals move through the water; human swimmers move around in water and move the water around. This isn’t surprising when you consider that human swimmers are terrestrial mammals attempting an aquatic activity.
Terry Laughlin’s highly visual, informative and entertaining presentation will illustrate the key differences between terrestrial technique (arm-and-leg churning) and aquatic technique (stable, sleek, integrated and fluent) and show the five skills that can make a dramatic difference in your next triathlon—not just the swim . . . the entire race!
NATURAL RUNNING MECHANICS -- HOW TO RUN STRONGER WITH LOWER RISK OF INJURY; Jeff Horowitz, USA Triathlon Certified Coach, USA Track & Field Certified Coach and author of My First 100 Marathons and Smart Marathon Training

Jeff will also share exercises and drills that athletes need to do to stay strong, fast and healthy. Attendees will learn:
- Causes of the most common running injuries
- Drills to improve form and strength
- Balance, core and strength exercises that will help you improve as an athlete in no more than 30 minutes twice a week
WHAT'S REALLY REALLY DOES COUNT! WHAT AN ATHLETE'S UNIQUE BIOCHEMISTY TELLS US ABOUT PERFORMANCE AND POTENTIAL; Dr. Gil Blander, PhD, President, Chief Science Office and Founder of Segterra and Inside Tracker.
In this consumer-friendly, but science-based discussion, attendees will discover how an individual's natural bio-chemistry correlates with performance and how nutrition and natural supplements can be used effectively to optimize performance. This presentation will include compelling examples from research about how our internal chemistry can be managed to improve performance and overall health as well as practical applications of one's internal chemistry in a training program.
