In this seminar, Coach Al will cover why establishing a foundation of quality “authentic” movement with minimal compensation and dysfunction is essential for long term improvement, injury resistance, and overall health, for every single triathlete. To summarize: over the short term, training specificity works. Over the long term, training specificity which leads to imbalances, compensation, and dysfunction, will reduce performance potential, increase injury risk, and reduce overall health. Coach Al will show you why it's time for triathletes to enter the modern age, and begin to understand WHY movement matters! You will learn:
- What it means to move “authentically” and why it matters when it comes to getting faster, and staying injury free.
- What are some basic assessment/screening exercises/tools that every athlete can use on their own, to assess the quality of their movement.
- What are the basic differences between core ‘stability’ and core ‘strength,’ and why it matters.

While a big part of being a strong cyclist for triathlon is training and “building the engine”, cycling is a heavily technique-based sport like swimming and running. In this presentation Ian and Dean will discuss how to maximize your speed and comfort on the bike through proper bike positioning and optimized riding technique/form. Common biomechanical factors and limitations, as well as fundamental triathlon fit concepts, will be covered as well as the relationship between your riding position and bike/equipment selection. You will also learn:
- What optimized technique/posture for comfort & speed on the bike looks like
- Common biomechanical factors that limit comfort & speed in the aero position
- A general idea of how riding position relates to bike selection

Dean writes the “Tech Center” articles for BeginnerTriathlete.com and is an industry leader in aerodynamic positioning and testing. Dean is an accomplished triathlete and cyclist who has used his bike fitting and aerodynamic background to help him set numerous time trial and triathlon bike records all over New England.
